BMO is focused on achieving industry leadership by increasing diversity across all levels of the organization, through innovative talent practices and ambitious workforce representation goals.

We have targeted strategies, training programs and employee forums that are intended to build a more diverse and inclusive workplace.

Vision 2020 diversity goals

Our Leadership Committee for Inclusion and Diversity (LCID), which comprises 25 senior executives from across the bank, has developed a bold, multi-year strategy to drive performance by excelling at diversity and inclusion. Our strategy to meet our goals is focused on:

  • Recruiting, retaining and developing diverse high-performing talent
  • Fostering an inclusive work environment in which our employees are able to learn from their differences
  • Being the bank of choice for the increasingly diverse customers and communities we serve

To help us maintain our industry-leading position, BMO established Vision 2020, a set of goals for diverse workforce representation, including:

  • Women on our Board of Directors (% of independent directors) – no less than 33%
  • Gender equity in senior leader roles in each line of business (Canada and United States) – minimum of 40% women and men
  • Minorities in senior roles (Canada) – 30%
  • People of Color in senior roles (United States) – 20%
  • Persons with Disabilities (Canada and United States) – 4.5% of total workforce
  • Indigenous Peoples (Canada) – 1.6% of total workforce
